Becoming an international athlete, representing her province & country comes with significant expenses, including travel, accommodation, training, equipment, and competition fees.

In 2024 competing at the Canadian National Karate Championship Tournament & the Pan American Karate Championship Tournament was made possible by donations, fundraising & sponsorships.

For 2025, we are asking for donations &/or sponsorships for Veronica.  All competitions are listed on our Training Page. A realistic amount required for both Nationals & PanAm’s would be minimum $15,000 CAD

To attend any other tournaments that are listed would be easily $500-$10,000 per competition. This would cover Veronica & 1 chaperone.

If there is an application or presentation that is required, please contact Heather (Veronica’s mother) at heatherpalmer@shaw.ca to arrange for that.

Official Sponsorship Request Letter for 2025

Hello my name is Veronica Palmer. I’m 14 year old resident of the Town of Morinville and a student of the Rooke School of Karate.

Last year, 2024, I had two amazing competition opportunities that not every athlete receives. My goal going into 2024 was to do better then I did in 2023. And I achieved that goal.

Kata Individual Female – Cadet – 7th place

Cadet Kata Female and Cadet Kumite Female +61KG – Silver which gave me the prestigious invite to represent Canada in August at the Continental Championship Tournament in Brazil. I placed in the top 7 for my division there.. There were only 98 Canadians that attended this competition, almost 1000 athletes from 23 countries represented.

2025 presents the same 2 competitions.  My results in April will foretell my attendance in August at the PanAmerican Championship Tournament.

April is the Canadian National Karate Championships in Richmond, BC, Canada and August will be the Jr PanAmerican Karate Championship Tournament in Asuncion, Paraquay, South America.

  • 2023, 2024 Member of the Provincial team for Karate Alberta and represented Alberta at  Canadian National Championship tournament each year.
  • Member of the Jr Canadian National Karate Team

My family and I have crunched the numbers and expect these two championship tournaments to cost combined $12,000 -$15,000 CAD to attend.

That amount covers:

  • Travel to the venues (this includes the mandatory chaperone that will travel with Veroncia)
  • Hotel for the week both competitions
  • Travel Medical Insurance
  • Food & shuttle
  • Registration fees

The purpose of this letter is  I am asking for any possible grant or donation that may be available from you &/or your company.

A little about the Rooke School of Karate:

  • Rooke School of Karate has been a local Morinville Business for the past 18 years. Actively involved in the community through parades, festivals, MMM adapt a family, working with our town’s youth & more. Veronica has been an active member since 2014 when she turned 4 & found a passion for karate through their Karate Kid’s Program.  Karate has taught Veronica self-discipline, self-confidence, coachability, self-defense & to give back to the community. She is currently a JR Instructor with the junior ranks inspiring young athletes to develop themselves in all aspects of growth & really show casing what a young woman in sports is capable of by allowing young girls to dream big with their goals. Veronica’s success in 2024 was  a first for our local dojo in having an athlete achieve this level of competing on the international stage & being a member of the Jr. National Karate Team.

What is the Karate Canada National Championship Tournament?

It the most important event on the year in domestic competition calendar. For 4 days the top karate ka’s from each province/territory come together to compete for the coveted spots for the National Team. This is the qualifier for the Continental Championship tournament which leads to the qualifier for the Worlds. The top competition for any karate athlete. Each provincial team is only allowed 4 kata members & 3 kumite members per division.

What is the JR PKF PanAmerican Championship Tournament?

  • The JR PKF PanAmerican Championship tournament is an elite opportunity not granted to every karate student. This tournament is by invite only. You must medal ( gold or silver) at the Canadian National Karate Tournament to receive this prestigious invite for the JR Pan Am Games. Only 98 athletes from across Canada attended in 2024 with  8 athletes from Alberta, Veronica is the only athlete from outside the Calgary area in Alberta. Competing at this large of an international stage is a priveledge and honour not every student/athlete will receive.

What does Veronica do in her free time?

  • She is currently in Gr 9. Since grade 4 has been on the Honour roll for Academics. Since Grade 7 has been on the schools volleyball, basketball, badminton & track & field teams. She trains karate 3-4 nights a week, babysits for neighbors & works part time cleaning school buses for a local contractor. She is also a member of the Inspire Program run by Jessie’s House that explores leadership, healthy relationships, bullying, self-image, societal pressures, and wellness. The program empowers participants to make healthy choices, build self-worth, and nurture healthy relationships.

What do we do for your donation?

Your logo will appear on this website, we do social media posts through out the year shouting out you & will tag/hashtag any account requesting. We are open to discussing further requirements for any donations.

What if you don’t collect enough funds or too much funds?

In 2024 both competitions expenses were covered through sponsors, donations, fundraising & savings. In the end, if there is not enough funds Veronica would not attend.  If we collect more than our budget there are a few options:

    • Give back to The Rooke School of Karate’s Fundraising account to offset upcoming athletes opportunities
    • Put into an savings account for both competitions next year
    • Possibly attend a new tournament such as the karate youth leagues or Vegas Open.
